Just two years ago, we were living in Joburg, in a very leafy neighbourhood; our complex was located away from the main road, and the design of the complex was somewhat shielded us from the usual hustle and bustle of city life.
My husband would often wake up early in the morning, before our neighbors started their cars for work and the usual city noise began, open the balcony doors and record the birds chirping in the many trees and bushes in our complex.
(Unfortunately, his recordings would sometimes be ruined by the raucous calls of the hadedas in the background.)
Now that we live here, I love that in Helderberg too, we can have this familiarity (in between the many “meetings” the hadedas or the Egyptian geese “attend” during the day.)
I love that, even though I don’t know much about birds, I know that any day, any season, they are sharing their symphony (or even cacophony) of sounds with us.
I love the beautiful symphony of sounds, where even the hadedas and the Egyptian geese are members of the orchestra.
