The cupcakes looked so incredibly detailed that I honestly thought the decorations might be made from plastic. They simply looked too perfect to be real.
Thankfully, I was completely wrong. When we collected our order, every single decoration was edible, beautifully made and even more impressive in person than in the photographs. From that moment on, we knew we had found our family’s go-to cupcake baker.
A birthday tradition that grows with our son
That first order in October 2023 quickly became a family tradition. Since then, we’ve ordered from Creative Kidz Cupcakes every year for our son’s birthday. Some years we have a birthday cake and some years we don’t, but one thing has stayed the same—we always order Sherelene’s cupcakes.
Each birthday theme has reflected whatever our son happened to love at the time. His first cupcakes featured cars, inspired by his fascination with anything on wheels and his favourite song, The Wheels on the Bus. The following year brought dinosaurs, cars and fire trucks. In 2025, Paw Patrol took centre stage.
This year, after becoming fascinated with letters and sounds, he wanted an alphabet theme. We ordered 26 cupcakes—13 vanilla and 13 chocolate—for R338.
When placing the order, I simply asked for colourful icing, expecting perhaps a few different frosting colours. Sherelene went far beyond that. Almost every cupcake had its own unique colour combination and matching decorations, with beautifully crafted edible alphabet toppers that made each one feel special.
It must have taken a great deal of extra time, but that’s exactly what has impressed us from the very beginning. Every order feels carefully planned rather than simply produced, and that attention to detail is one of the biggest reasons we keep coming back.
The compliment that still makes me smile
One of my favourite memories happened after our son celebrated his birthday with his classmates at school. The cupcakes were such a hit that his teacher came over afterwards, smiled at me and said, “Wow, these are amazing! How did you manage this? You must have a big kitchen.”
I smiled, thanked her and quietly laughed to myself. For a brief moment, I realised she genuinely believed I had baked them.
The funny part was that, in the days leading up to the celebration, the things I had been worrying about were completely different. I was hoping the children would love them, wondering whether the teachers would enjoy them too, and stressing about whether we’d manage to get them safely to school without damaging all that beautiful icing during the drive.
The thought that someone would assume I’d made them myself had never even crossed my mind. I eventually laughed and admitted that while I enjoy cooking at home, I’m definitely not talented enough to create cupcakes that looked like these.

Ordering is simple, and every detail is thoughtfully considered
One of the things we’ve also come to appreciate is how easy the ordering process is.
Everything happens over WhatsApp. You tell Sherelene how many cupcakes you’d like, choose between vanilla or chocolate, discuss your theme, colours and decorations, agree on a collection date and pay either a 50% deposit or the full amount upfront.
Collection from Heritage Park is straightforward. On the day, she sends the gate code along with clear collection instructions, making the entire process smooth and hassle-free. Although she doesn’t currently offer delivery, we’ve never found collection to be an inconvenience.
What stands out just as much is the packaging. Every order has been carefully secured inside the box so the cupcakes stay firmly in place during the drive home. Despite transporting several themed orders over the years, we’ve never opened a box to find smeared icing or cupcakes that had shifted around. It’s another small detail that shows the care Sherelene puts into every order.
