The popular franchise has taken up residency at Shop G14 on Niblick Way, offering a full-service menu from early morning coffee to late-night weekend drinks.

News Cafe Somerset West has officially opened at The Sanctuary Shopping Centre, bringing the well-known restaurant and bar brand to the Helderberg community.

For anyone who regularly shops or passes through The Sanctuary, the new News Cafe adds another convenient dining option. From morning coffee to after-work catch-ups and weekend evenings out, the venue appears to be embracing the familiar News Cafe experience, with social media teasing the brand’s well-known favourites.

Early mornings and late nights

One of the things I noticed immediately from their official announcement on Monday, 6 July 2026, the trading hours are quite ambitious for the area. According to their listing, they are opening as early as 07:30 on weekdays, which is a massive plus for anyone who needs a proper coffee before the traffic on the N2 starts backing up.

The weekend energy looks set to be a significant drawcard for the younger crowd or anyone looking for a late night. The venue is staying open until 02:00 on Friday and Saturday nights. Sundays seem to be geared more towards that slow, family-style brunch vibe, opening a little later at 08:30 and wrapping things up by 22:00.

Menu and atmosphere at The Sanctuary

While I have not yet had a chance to sit down for a meal myself, the social media updates from both the franchise and the shopping centre suggest they are sticking to the classic News Cafe formula. The menu appears to be a full-service affair, covering everything from breakfast and light lunches to a more substantial dinner offering.

Their Instagram has been teasing a mix of their well-known favourites, which is always good to see in a franchise. The location at The Sanctuary is particularly convenient because of the parking and the general flow of the centre.

Settling into the Firgrove Rural neighbourhood

I am personally looking forward to seeing how the vibe evolves over the next few weeks. The Sanctuary has always had a very specific, relaxed community feel, and adding a brand that leans into the cocktail and music culture during the evenings will be an interesting shift.

For now, it is just great to have another option for those of us who spend a lot of time in this corner of the Helderberg. Whether it is for a quick caffeine fix after a gym session or a proper evening out with friends, it looks like a solid addition to our dining circuit.
