The Village Bicycle has confirmed it will open its new Somerset West restaurant at 206 Main Road on 1 December 2025, with opening specials planned.
The countdown is officially on. The Village Bicycle has confirmed that its new Somerset West restaurant will open its doors on 1 December 2025, bringing the popular dining destination to the Helderberg for the first time.
The announcement was shared on the restaurant’s social media channels, where the team revealed that construction is progressing well and that preparations are now entering the final stretch. According to the update, “the build, the vibe, the vision” are all coming together, with the new venue representing “a brand new chapter, a brand new home, and the same heart, food, and energy you’ve come to love.”
The move follows another announcement made by the restaurant on 12 November 2025, when it confirmed that its Tyger Valley branch would be closing after two years of trading. The team shared that they would be relocating to Somerset West, making the Helderberg the brand’s new home.
Opening Soon on Main Road
The new restaurant is located at 206 Main Road, Somerset West, and if you’ve driven along this stretch recently, you’ve probably already noticed it.
The building is almost impossible to miss thanks to the restaurant’s oversized bicycle logo fixed to the front of the building. It’s cleverly designed to look as though an actual bicycle has been mounted to the façade, making it one of those landmarks you instinctively glance at as you drive past. We pass it every morning and afternoon on the school run, and it looks especially striking after dark when the bicycle’s wheel hub lights up, making it stand out even more along Main Road.
While the restaurant has promised to share more sneak peeks in the weeks leading up to the opening, it has already confirmed that customers can also look forward to opening specials once the doors officially open.
The Village Bicycle has built a loyal following for its relaxed atmosphere, wood-fired pizzas, burgers, grills, sharing plates and wide selection of drinks. The brand already operates a well-established restaurant at 1 Blaauwberg Rd, Marine Circle in Bloubergstrand, and the new Somerset West branch will bring the same dining experience to the Helderberg while also offering a convenient new location for locals.
With the opening date now confirmed for 1 December 2025, it won’t be long before another local landmark becomes something we drive past each day to somewhere we can finally stop, grab a meal and see what all the excitement has been about.
