Another walk along Old Stellenbosch Road reminded me that even the most familiar places in Somerset West can surprise you when the seasons begin to change.
I’ve walked Old Stellenbosch Road more times than I can count, but one thing I’ve come to appreciate is that it never quite looks the same twice.
Some mornings, the road feels bright and bustling. Other days, it’s the surrounding greenery that quietly steals the show.
On this particular walk, it was the landscape that caught my attention. The familiar stretch of road was unchanged, yet everything around it felt different. The trees seemed fuller, the greenery more vibrant, and the changing light gave the entire route a softer feel than I remembered.
It’s one of the things I enjoy most about living in the Helderberg. You don’t always have to discover somewhere new to feel like you’ve experienced something different. Sometimes, simply revisiting a familiar place is enough.
There’s something calming about slowing your pace and noticing the small details—the way the trees frame the road, how the mountains peek through in the distance, or how the changing seasons quietly transform the same scenery over time.
Old Stellenbosch Road may be part of my regular routine, but it continues to remind me that nature has a remarkable way of making even the everyday feel fresh again.
