Bootlegger Coffee Company has opened at Old Cape Mall in Gordon’s Bay, offering specialty coffee, all-day breakfasts and one of the town’s earliest morning café options.

Bootlegger Coffee Company has officially opened at Old Cape Mall, bringing the popular South African café brand to 33 Beach Road with ocean views, specialty coffee and an all-day breakfast menu.
The café overlooks the coastline, making it an easy stop whether you’re heading out for a morning walk along the beach, meeting friends for breakfast or simply looking for somewhere to enjoy a coffee by the sea.
Built Around Early Mornings
Bootlegger announced the opening on social media with a simple message: “Bootlegger Gordon’s Bay. Now open.”
It didn’t take long for locals to discover the new café. Early reviews described it as one of the few places in Gordon’s Bay open early enough for breakfast, something that’s no coincidence.
In fact, Bootlegger’s story began with a similar frustration. The company’s founders, who were regular early-morning cyclists, struggled to find a coffee shop open before 6:30 am. Rather than settling for whatever they could find, they decided to create the kind of café they wished already existed — one where quality coffee was available from the start of the day.
More than a decade later, that early-morning philosophy still forms part of the Bootlegger experience.
More Than Just Coffee
Since opening its first café in Sea Point in 2013, Bootlegger has grown to more than 70 locations across South Africa.
The brand has become known for its Specialty Grade Coffee, sustainable approach and all-day menu of breakfasts, brunches and lunches. Every full-sized café also features a neon quote from an AC/DC song, a small detail that has become one of the brand’s signature touches.
At the Gordon’s Bay branch, visitors can also enjoy free Wi-Fi, takeaway options and a children’s menu while taking in the beachfront setting.
