One of the familiar ‘N Ice Ice Cream Parlour locations along Strand’s Beach Road has closed, with customers directed to the company’s two remaining branches.
If you have been along Beach Road in Strand recently, you may have noticed that one of the familiar ‘N Ice Ice Cream Parlour locations has closed.
The shop at 97 Beach Road now has a notice on the door stating, “This shop is closed,” with customers directed to visit the company’s other branches at 106 or 142 Beach Road.
There is currently no information from the company about why the shop has closed.

The shop has been cleared out
I tried to find out more from staff at the two remaining ‘N Ice Ice Cream Parlour locations along Beach Road, but they were also unable to provide any clarity on the closure. The staff members I spoke to were not aware of the possible reason for the 97 Beach Road shop closing.
Inside, the premises have been completely cleared out. There is no furniture, ice cream equipment or any of the familiar colourful ‘N Ice branding that would have identified the shop as one of the beachfront parlours.
Attempts to make contact with the 97 Beach Road operation directly were also unsuccessful at the time of publication, with the contact numbers and email addresses associated with the location going unanswered.
There are still ice cream options nearby
The closure does not mean the end of ‘N Ice along Strand’s beachfront. The company continues to operate its other two locations at 106 and 142 Beach Road.
There is also a Milky Lane at 95 Beach Road, just a short distance from the former ‘N Ice shop. So, for anyone looking to get an ice cream while enjoying the beachfront, there is certainly no shortage of options.

A familiar Strand sight is gone
Still, the closure is noticeable because the ‘N Ice parlours have been a familiar part of Beach Road for locals and visitors alike.
The shops have been part of those summer days spent along the beachfront, but also the quieter winter walks when an ice cream was still very much an option. Having three ‘N Ice locations along this stretch of Beach Road also made the brand a particularly familiar sight for anyone regularly using the beachfront.
The closure of 97 Beach Road does not change that entirely. Two ‘N Ice locations remain, and other ice cream options are nearby.
For regular visitors to this part of Strand, though, it will still be noticeable the next time they pass the spot and see an empty shop where an ‘N Ice parlour used to be. The appeal was never only the ice cream itself. It was the experience around it too, walking along that part of the beachfront, taking in the view and stopping for an ice cream along the way. With the 97 Beach Road location now closed, perhaps a small part of that experience is gone too.
UPDATE | 14 September 2026
Work has now started inside the former ‘N Ice premises at 97 Beach Road.
When I visited the site on Monday, 14 September 2026, workers were on site and internal partitioning was being installed inside the premises. The work appears to still be in its early stages, with metal framing and drywall being used to create new internal spaces.
Conversations around the site suggest that the premises may become a satellite office for a major South African real estate agency. We have contacted the agency in question for confirmation and will update this article if and when we receive a response.
For now, the identity of the new occupant has not been officially confirmed.
