After more than a month-long delay caused by a container carrying the final fitments being sent to Durban instead of Cape Town, Freedom Adventure Park has confirmed that its Somerset Mall attraction will open on Saturday, 3 October 2026.
The wait is finally over.
Freedom Adventure Park at Somerset Mall will open its doors this Saturday, 3 October 2026, more than five weeks after its originally planned opening date of 27 August 2026.
I spoke to Freedom Adventure Park’s Jonathan Goosen again for an update, and this time there is a date to put in the diary.
The Somerset Mall attraction had been ready to open in August, but the final fitments needed for the venue were delayed after a container intended for Cape Town was instead offloaded in Durban. The container then sat in Durban while the company worked on getting it moved to Cape Town.
That left the business with a premises already being rented, staff already recruited and an opening date that had to be pushed back.
Now, that part of the story is finally over.
The doors are opening this Saturday
Freedom Adventure Park will open at Somerset Mall on Saturday, 3 October 2026, bringing its new space in the mall’s food and entertainment wing into operation.
The attraction includes South Africa’s first UV glow-in-the-dark, space-themed interactive nine-hole putt-putt course, alongside the AERO Strike Arena and Multiball Interactive Wall.
The Somerset West venue will also feature a range of Freedom Adventure Park’s existing attractions, giving families a new indoor entertainment option at the mall.
The Somerset West venue forms part of Somerset Mall’s new food and entertainment wing, which has been steadily filling up with new restaurants and attractions.
A long-awaited opening
The original plan had been for the park to open on 27 August 2026, with around 35 local team members recruited ahead of the launch.
Instead, the final fitments became the hold-up. Freedom Adventure Park confirmed at the time that it was waiting for the container to reach Cape Town before committing to another date.
That makes this latest update particularly significant. Rather than another provisional date, Freedom Adventure Park Somerset West has now confirmed that the Somerset Mall attraction is opening this Saturday.
After following the story from the original planned opening, to the unexpected delay and the container sitting in Durban, there is finally a very simple message for Helderberg families:
Freedom Adventure Park is opening.
And this time, there is a date.
Saturday, 3 October 2026, at Somerset Mall.
