Rib Republic Confirms 27 August 2026 Opening at Somerset Mall’s New SM Food Market

Rib Republic has confirmed it will open its first permanent Helderberg restaurant at Somerset Mall’s new SM Food Market on 27 August 2026, creating local jobs and bringing its popular market menu to Somerset West.

After noticing the brand’s upcoming arrival at Somersert Mall’s new food market, I contacted Rib Republic to learn more about what customers can expect from the new restaurant, why the Helderberg was chosen for its latest expansion, and when the doors will officially open.

In response, Rib Republic confirmed that the Somerset Mall branch is currently scheduled to open on 27 August 2026, with any changes to the opening date to be communicated through its social media platforms.

From market favourite to permanent restaurant

Rib Republic says the Somerset Mall branch represents the next step in the brand’s growth after building a loyal following at some of Cape Town’s best-known markets.

While customers can expect the same generous portions and flavours served at its market locations, the new restaurant will operate from a permanent, modern store, allowing for longer and more consistent trading hours seven days a week.

The restaurant will operate primarily as a takeaway outlet, although customers will be able to enjoy their meals in the shared seating area within the SM Food Market. Delivery through Mr D and Uber Eats is also planned once the restaurant is operational.

Ribs remain the star of the menu

According to Rib Republic, its signature ribs will remain the star of the menu, but diners can also look forward to a variety of other favourites. Alongside its famous ribs, the menu will feature rib buns, juicy beef burgers, slow-cooked pork belly, chicken, wors, crispy chips, a selection of sides, and rib and family meal combinations designed for sharing.

For first-time visitors, the restaurant recommends trying either its signature ribs or one of its popular rib buns.

Why the Helderberg?

Asked why Somerset Mall was chosen for the brand’s next expansion, Rib Republic said the Helderberg’s continued growth made it an attractive location.

The company described the area as a growing community with a strong mix of local residents, families, professionals and visitors, while Somerset Mall’s established customer base and the launch of the new SM Food Market created an opportunity to introduce the brand to Somerset West and the surrounding areas.

The new restaurant has initially created approximately eight direct employment opportunities, with plans to expand the team as the business grows and demand increases.

Rib Republic also confirmed that launch promotions are currently being finalised and will be announced closer to opening through its social media platforms.

For Helderberg residents, Rib Republic’s arrival adds another exciting dining destination to Somerset Mall’s growing food offering, while giving the brand’s local fans their first permanent restaurant close to home.
