Total Ninja Somerset West opens at Lourensford Estate on 28 August 2026, bringing electric go-karts, giant slides, a multi-level outdoor Sky Trail and its signature indoor obstacle and inflatable adventure park to the Helderberg.
There is a lot happening around Lourensford Estate at the moment, and from this Friday, 28 August 2026, families will have yet another reason to make the trip.
Total Ninja Somerset West is opening its doors, bringing a new adventure venue to the Helderberg and, importantly, introducing several attractions that go beyond the traditional Total Ninja experience.
I wanted to find out what had been put together, who the new venue is aimed at and what makes the Somerset West offering different from the existing Total Ninja locations. Darren McKay, Head of Marketing at Total Ninja, talked me through the thinking behind the new venue and what visitors can expect when it opens.
More than an obstacle course
At the heart of the venue is Total Ninja’s indoor obstacle and inflatable adventure experience, but the Somerset West site takes things further with three new attractions: Total Suzuka, Ninja Skyfall and Ninja Sky Trail.
Total Suzuka brings electric go-karts into the mix, while Ninja Skyfall features giant slides.
Then there is Ninja Sky Trail, a multi-level outdoor rope obstacle course involving climbing, balance and a series of suspended challenges.
The venue also brings Total Ninja’s signature indoor obstacle and inflatable adventure park experience to Somerset West, part of the brand billed as Africa’s largest indoor obstacle and inflatable adventure park.
Importantly, all of the advertised attractions will be operational from opening day on 28 August 2026.
It makes for a considerably broader offering than simply turning up for an obstacle-course session.
Something for different ages
While children remain at the heart of the Total Ninja audience, the Somerset West venue has been designed with a much broader age range in mind.
The addition of electric go-karts, giant slides and the outdoor Sky Trail adds new challenges for older children, teens and adults, while the core Total Ninja experience continues to offer different levels of challenge for visitors of varying abilities.
For the youngest Ninjas, Mini Ninja Soft Play provides a dedicated space for children aged 0–3, while the main Total Ninja experience is available from four years upwards. Certain attractions have additional age and height requirements.
That gives the venue a natural progression, from a dedicated space for its youngest visitors through to increasingly challenging experiences for older children, teens and adults.
Why Somerset West?
I was particularly interested in the thinking behind the location.
McKay explained that the Somerset West venue is far enough from Total Ninja’s existing Black River Park venue in Observatory to avoid diluting its existing visitor base, while opening the brand up to a substantially different catchment.
The new venue is positioned to serve families across Somerset West, Strand, Gordon’s Bay, Stellenbosch, Grabouw and the wider Helderberg and Cape Winelands.
For local families, that means an attraction of this scale is now available much closer to home.
And Lourensford itself adds something to the proposition.
The estate already draws visitors for its food, wine and other activities, while its Friday night market provides another natural fit for a family attraction.
The Friday night connection
The venue will open at 9am every day.
From Monday to Thursday, it will operate until 7pm, while Fridays run until 10pm to coincide with the Lourensford night market.
That creates an interesting combination for families, allowing a Total Ninja visit to form part of a wider afternoon or evening at Lourensford Estate.
On Saturdays and Sundays, the venue will again operate from 9am to 7pm.
Opening hours may vary, and visitors are encouraged to check the Total Ninja website for the latest information before visiting.
Built for coming back
One of the more interesting things McKay said was that Total Ninja is not really in the business of one-off visits.
“We’re in the memories business,” he explained. “We want people to come back.”
That idea is reflected in the Somerset West offering. With different attractions, different levels of challenge and something for children at different ages, the venue is designed to give families a reason to return rather than try everything once.
Bookings are already coming in
Early interest in the new venue has been strong, with birthday party bookings already confirmed for the opening weekend.
There is also an opening promotion for Somerset West visitors, with 20% off General Admission tickets using the code EARLYBIRDSSW20. The offer is exclusive to Somerset West and runs until the end of September 2026, although bookings made during the promotion can be used for a later date.
Visitors will also be able to walk in without booking, although online booking is encouraged. Participants need to complete an indemnity waiver before taking part, and doing that ahead of time should make arrival easier.
A range of ticket options is available depending on which attractions visitors want to experience, from the core Total Ninja adventure through to passes that include Total Suzuka, Ninja Sky Trail or access to the full experience.
A new family destination
There is something quite appealing about having this kind of choice in the Helderberg.
The venue can grow with a family, from Mini Ninja Soft Play for the youngest visitors through to increasingly challenging experiences for older children, teens and adults. Lourensford, meanwhile, gives families plenty more to experience around it.
That makes the timing particularly interesting. The estate is already becoming a busier family destination, and Total Ninja adds another piece to that picture.
With the doors opening on 28 August 2026, and the first birthday parties already booked for the following day, the Helderberg will not have to wait long to see how this new addition settles in.
For now, though, Total Ninja Somerset West is ready to go.
