HelderbergStuff I have been keeping an eye on the local holiday schedules lately because, as anyone with a young family in Somerset West knows, the winter break can feel quite long if you do not have a few activities lined up. My own weekends used to be a lot slower; when we first moved to the area, we were regulars at Waterstone Village. We would head down there to get the groceries done while our car was being washed, often treating ourselves to ‘The Proper Breakfast’ at the Woolworths Café.
Those early days were full of pleasant surprises, like the time we met Dave from Makani during one of our outings. But life has changed as our son has grown into a very energetic boy. Our weekends are now far more about finding ways to channel that energy than they are about winding down. That is why the upcoming Winter Cookies and Crafts activation caught my attention. It is exactly the kind of local event I like to flag for other parents who might be in the same boat.
According to the event announcement, Waterstone Village has partnered with Curro Somerset West, Sitari Estate to host a morning specifically designed for children to explore their creative sides. The Winter Cookies and Crafts session is scheduled for Thursday, 2 July 2026, running from 11:00 to 13:00.
The listing notes that the goal is for kids to ‘unleash their inner baker and artist’. It is a nice touch for the winter holidays, especially when you are looking for something that keeps them busy but also teaches them a little something. I have already messaged the WhatsApp number provided to secure a spot for my son. I am hoping he enjoys the experience and makes some good memories. Personally, I am quite keen on the idea of him learning some baking skills; maybe by next Mother’s Day, he will be the one spoiling me with treats instead of the other way around.
If you are planning to head down, it is worth noting that space appears to be quite limited. The promotional material states that only 40 kits are available for the day. This is likely to ensure that every child who attends has the materials they need to participate fully without it becoming too crowded.
