Fletchers Burgers took over Senor Onion Mexican Café in Somerset West, bringing the Mexican restaurant’s menu together with its burgers at Fountain Square.
There is a little more to Fletchers Burgers in Somerset West than the name might suggest. While the Fountain Square restaurant is known for its burgers, it also carries on the menu and staff of a familiar local Mexican spot.
Fletchers Burgers took over the operations of Senor Onion Mexican Café in 2025, bringing the restaurant’s menu and team under the Fletchers name at Fountain Square, at the back of Caledon Street in Somerset West.
More Than Just Burgers
The arrangement means that customers looking for Mexican food have not had to say goodbye to the Senor Onion offering. Instead, Fletchers has incorporated it into its own menu, alongside its burgers and other dishes.
The restaurant has been reminding customers on social media that there is plenty more on offer than burgers, regularly teasing a menu that includes tacos, wings, jalapeño poppers and Mexican dishes from the former Senor Onion menu.
For anyone who has ever found themselves caught between a burger craving and a Mexican food craving, Fletchers has perhaps solved the problem rather neatly. As the restaurant puts it, you can simply have both.
The move also means that the people who were familiar with Senor Onion’s food and staff can still find them at the same Somerset West location, now operating as part of Fletchers Burgers.
Keeping the Mexican Menu in Somerset West
It is an interesting evolution for a restaurant that initially arrived on the local scene with a focus on world-inspired burgers. Rather than leaving the Mexican offering behind when the businesses came together, Fletchers has kept it in the mix, giving the Fountain Square restaurant a broader menu and allowing customers to choose according to whatever they are craving that day.
Fletchers Burgers is located at Fountain Square, at the back of Caledon Street, Somerset West, and the restaurant’s number is 021 301 2156. The food is also available for delivery through Uber Eats and Mr D.
So, if you have been wondering what happened to Senor Onion, the answer is that its Mexican food did not disappear. It simply found a new home alongside the burgers at Fletchers.
