Majuba Country Estate Takes Shape in the Helderberg Winelands With 15 Opportunities Left

Majuba Country Estate is taking shape in the Helderberg Winelands, with four show houses under construction and 15 opportunities remaining in the 52-plot development.

Majuba Country Estate caught my attention after the development announced that half of its 52 plots had sold within six months.

With construction now underway and four show houses being built, I reached out to find out what is happening on the ground, who is buying into the development and what the finished estate is expected to look like.

The development is positioned as a smaller, boutique estate in the Helderberg Winelands, with 52 plots in total and the option of buying a plot and building from one of nine architect-designed home plans.

A smaller estate by design

Majuba Country Estate is being developed as a relatively small residential community rather than a large, high-density development.

The plots average around 500m², with the developers saying the intention is to create a closer, more neighbourly community.

The nine available house designs range from two- to four-bedroom homes, with buyers able to purchase a plot or choose one of the ready-designed options.

So far, the four-bedroom double-storey design has proved the most popular. It is also the largest of the available house types.

Construction is underway

There is now visible activity on the development, with four show houses under construction.

The anticipated completion date for the estate is 2029, although no date has yet been given for the first homeowners to move in.

The current offering includes plots starting at R2.69 million, while homes start at R5.999 million. Transfer costs and duties are included.

Who is buying?

The buyer profile so far appears to be fairly local.

Majuba says buyers have been predominantly local residents, although there have also been a number of people relocating from other provinces.

That gives the development a somewhat different profile from estates driven primarily by international buyers or semigration from the major metropolitan centres.

Why this part of the Helderberg?

The setting is an important part of the development.

Majuba Country Estate is situated in the Helderberg Winelands, with the plots positioned to make the most of mountain and ocean views while remaining within reach of local amenities and major roads.

The developers describe the appeal as being able to feel removed from the busier parts of the area while still having relatively easy access to the things residents need.

Beyond the estate itself, residents will also be within reach of the area’s wine farms, beaches, mountain trails and cafés.

What will life inside the estate look like?

Security is a significant part of the development, with the estate planned to have 24-hour security, a manned guardhouse, on- and off-site CCTV monitoring and an electrified fence.

There are also landscaped green areas planned within the estate, alongside the individual homes and plots.

The idea is to combine the privacy and security of an estate with the setting of the Winelands rather than creating a dense suburban development.

15 opportunities remain

Majuba is still very much a development in progress.

Of the original 52 plots, 15 opportunities remain, while construction has now moved beyond the planning stage with the show houses taking shape.

The anticipated completion date is 2029, giving the project several years to move from the current construction phase towards the finished estate.

For me, the interesting part now is seeing how the idea of a small Winelands community translates onto the site itself as the homes, landscaping and shared spaces begin to take shape.
