A spectacular red sunset over the Helderberg mountains reminded us why every season and every evening in Somerset West feels worth appreciating.
Just when I think I’ve seen every colour the Somerset West sky has to offer, it surprises me again. I mentioned in another post that since moving to Somerset West, blue has quietly become my favourite colour.
What I forgot to mention is that I’ve also fallen completely in love with this place. No matter the season, the weather or the time of day, there’s always something worth stopping for. One day it’s brilliant blue skies, the next it’s dramatic winter clouds, then two rainbows in two consecutive days… and now, a sky painted in shades of red.
As evening settled over the Helderberg mountains, the distant peaks stood proudly beneath clouds glowing with deep reds and soft orange tones. It was one of those sunsets that seemed to change by the minute, making it impossible not to pause and admire the view.
Living in Somerset West has taught me to look up more often. You never quite know what the sky has planned next. Sometimes it’s blue, sometimes it’s grey, sometimes it gifts you a rainbow, and every now and then, it paints the mountains red.
