Freedom Adventure Park has confirmed it will open at Somerset Mall on 27 August 2026, bringing South Africa’s first UV glow-in-the-dark space-themed putt-putt and more.
Helderberg families won’t have to wait much longer. After months of anticipation, Freedom Adventure Park has officially confirmed when its new Somerset Mall location will open its doors.
Following my previous article about the upcoming attraction, I reached out to the Freedom Adventure Park team for an update on the project. They confirmed that construction has reached an advanced stage and that the Somerset West park remains on track to welcome its first visitors on 27 August 2026.
Advanced Construction Nearing Completion
While shoppers have been watching the space gradually take shape inside Somerset Mall, Freedom Adventure Park says the project is now in an advanced stage of its fit-out, with excellent progress being made towards completion.
The new venue forms part of Somerset Mall’s ongoing expansion and will occupy Shop 21 on the ground floor, adding another family-focused attraction to the growing retail and entertainment destination.
South Africa’s First UV Glow Space-Themed Putt-Putt
One of the biggest questions since the project was announced has been the mysterious “South African-first” attraction the company had been teasing.
Freedom Adventure Park has now confirmed that Somerset West will be home to South Africa’s first UV glow-in-the-dark, space-themed interactive nine-hole putt-putt course. Designed as an immersive family entertainment experience, the attraction will combine themed environments with interactive gameplay in a setting unlike anything currently offered by the company.
Exclusive Attractions for Somerset West
While visitors can expect many of the popular attractions already found at Freedom Adventure Park’s Tokai and Canal Walk venues, the Somerset West location won’t simply be a replica of its sister parks.
In addition to the UV glow-in-the-dark, space-themed interactive nine-hole putt-putt course, the new venue will introduce two attractions unique to Somerset West: the AERO Strike Arena and the Multiball Interactive Wall.
These exclusive experiences will sit alongside the park’s established mix of indoor adventure activities, giving Helderberg families something that can’t currently be found at any other Freedom Adventure Park location.
Around 35 New Local Jobs
The new park is also expected to bring employment opportunities to the Helderberg community.
Freedom Adventure Park confirmed that it is currently recruiting approximately 35 team members ahead of the opening. The available positions include front-of-house staff, back-of-house staff and baristas, with recruitment already underway as the launch approaches.
Launch Celebrations Still to Be Announced
Although the opening date has now been confirmed, the company says details of its official launch celebrations are still being finalised.
Freedom Adventure Park plans to host an official launch event in partnership with Somerset Mall, with information about opening specials, membership options and launch-day festivities set to be announced closer to 27 August 2026.
For many local families, this has been one of the most anticipated additions to Somerset Mall’s expansion. With an opening date now confirmed and more details emerging about the exclusive attractions, it won’t be long before Helderberg residents can experience the new adventure destination for themselves.

UPDATE
With the opening now confirmed, I was also able to step inside Freedom Adventure Park ahead of the launch and see the finished Somerset Mall attraction for myself. Read the first look here.
