Freedom Adventure Park has delayed its planned 27 August 2026 Somerset Mall opening due to delays with final fitments. No new opening date has been confirmed.
For anyone who had 27 August 2026 marked on the calendar, there is a small change of plan.
Freedom Adventure Park at Somerset Mall has not opened today as previously announced, with the attraction’s opening delayed by a final fit-out issue.
I went to Somerset Mall expecting to see the new venue open its doors, only to find that the space was still closed. I reached out to Freedom Adventure Park to find out what had happened.
Jonathan Goosen from Freedom Adventure Park confirmed that there have been delays involving a container carrying the final fitments for the Somerset West venue.
Those final elements are needed before the park can be completed, meaning the planned 27 August 2026 opening will not go ahead.
No new opening date yet
At this stage, there is no new opening date to report. For now, then, the Somerset Mall attraction remains very much coming soon.
That is obviously a little frustrating for families who were expecting to visit from today, particularly after the 27 August date had been confirmed and the project had been steadily taking shape inside the mall.
But it also means there is no point in putting another date out there until the final work is sufficiently advanced to give the company confidence that it can open.
Still coming to Somerset Mall
The delay does not change what is planned for the venue.
As previously reported, the Somerset Mall location will feature South Africa’s first UV glow-in-the-dark, space-themed interactive nine-hole putt-putt course, alongside the AERO Strike Arena and Multiball Interactive Wall, as well as a range of Freedom Adventure Park’s existing attractions.
The venue is located next to the new SM Food Market and the recently opened Mozambik restaurant.
The company had also been recruiting around 35 local team members ahead of the opening. So, while today did not quite go according to plan, there is still plenty to look forward to.
For now, Freedom Adventure Park remains coming soon to Somerset Mall.
Hopefully, the final fitments arrive soon and the company will be able to give Helderberg families a new opening date in the not-too-distant future.
