Platō Coffee has officially opened its doors in Somerset West, bringing the growing South African café brand to Bright Street in the heart of Audas Estate.

Coffee lovers in Somerset West have a new neighbourhood café to add to their list. Platō Coffee officially opened on 20 January 2024 at 1 Bright Street, Audas Estate, introducing the well-known coffee brand to the Helderberg for the first time.

The opening was announced on the company’s social media channels a day earlier, with the simple message: “Hello Somerset West!!” as the team counted down to launch day.

A Well-Known South African Coffee Brand Arrives

Founded in Tshwane, Platō Coffee has steadily expanded across South Africa by focusing on quality coffee served in welcoming, community-centred cafés. Over the years, the brand has grown into a national network with dozens of locations, including a number of stores throughout the Western Cape.

The Somerset West café marks another step in that expansion, giving Helderberg residents access to the brand closer to home.

Located on Bright Street, directly opposite the well-known Chelsea Village, the café is conveniently positioned for locals looking to grab a takeaway coffee on the way to work, meet friends over breakfast or enjoy a quieter spot during the day.

More Than Just Coffee

While coffee remains at the heart of the business, Platō Coffee also offers a selection of teas, smoothies, iced drinks, breakfast options, toasted sandwiches, wraps, pastries, cakes and light meals, making it suitable for everything from a quick morning stop to a relaxed catch-up over lunch.

The café trades from 6am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, while Sunday trading runs from 7am to 6pm, providing early-morning options for commuters as well as weekend visitors.

A Welcome Addition to Somerset West

Bright Street has long been known for its collection of independent businesses and cafés, and Platō Coffee adds another familiar South African name to the area’s growing food and coffee scene.

It’s always interesting to see established South African brands choosing Somerset West as part of their expansion. Each new opening adds another layer to the town’s evolving mix of independent favourites and nationally recognised businesses, giving locals even more reasons to shop and spend time close to home.
