Platō Coffee has opened a new coffee shop on Beach Road in Strand, bringing the growing South African café brand to one of the town’s busiest beachfront locations.
Coffee lovers in Strand have another option for their morning brew following the opening of Platō Coffee at Shop 3, Essential Health Building, 90 Beach Road. The café officially welcomed its first customers on 12 April 2025, marking the brand’s second location in the Helderberg.
The opening continues the steady growth of Platō Coffee, which has expanded to more than 80 locations across South Africa, with a strong presence throughout the Western Cape. While the chain has its roots in Tshwane, it has become an increasingly familiar name in Cape Town and surrounding areas over the past few years.
A Second Home in the Helderberg
The Strand branch follows the successful opening of Platō Coffee in Bright Street, Somerset West, opposite Chelsea Village. With the addition of the Beach Road café, residents on both sides of the Helderberg now have easier access to the brand without needing to travel far.
Situated at the Strand circle, the new location is well positioned for early morning commuters, beachgoers, cyclists and walkers making the most of the promenade. The café trades from 6am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, and 7am to 6pm on Sundays, making it equally convenient for a quick takeaway coffee or a more relaxed stop during the day.
Coffee, Light Meals and a Familiar Concept
Platō Coffee has built its reputation around quality coffee served in welcoming neighbourhood cafés. Alongside its range of espresso-based drinks, the menu includes teas, iced beverages, smoothies, breakfast options, toasted sandwiches, wraps, pastries, cakes and light lunches, catering for everything from a quick coffee run to a casual meal.
The company also places a strong emphasis on friendly customer service, describing its people as a key part of the experience alongside the coffee itself.
Another Choice for Strand’s Growing Coffee Scene
Beach Road has become an increasingly popular destination for cafés, and Platō Coffee adds another option for locals and visitors spending time along the Strand beachfront. Whether it’s grabbing a takeaway before a morning walk, meeting friends over coffee or stopping in after a swim, the new café adds to the variety of places available along the coastline.
With this latest opening, Platō Coffee now has two locations serving the Helderberg. It’s always interesting to see established South African brands continuing to invest in the area, giving residents more choice while reinforcing the Helderberg’s reputation as a destination for both local businesses and national names.
