Platō Coffee has expanded its footprint in Somerset West with the opening of a second café, this time at F45 Lifestyle Centre in Firgrove Rural, giving Helderberg residents another convenient location to enjoy the growing South African coffee brand.
Platō Coffee officially opened its doors at F45 Lifestyle Centre, 2 De Beers Avenue, on 29 November 2025, as part of a three-store launch that also included new cafés in Tokai and Plettenberg Bay.
The opening marks another milestone for the brand, which has grown from a small passion project into one of South Africa’s fastest-growing coffee chains, with more than 140 locations nationwide.
A Second Home in Somerset West
The new F45 café joins Platō’s original Somerset West branch in Bright Street, Audas Estate, which opened in January 2024. Together with the Strand branch, which opened in April 2025, Platō now has three cafés serving the wider Helderberg area.
The F45 location offers another convenient option for residents in Firgrove Rural, Somerset West and surrounding neighbourhoods, particularly those travelling along the R44 or visiting the growing commercial precinct.
Like other Platō cafés, the new branch operates from 6am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, and 7am to 6pm on Sundays and public holidays.
A Brand Built Around Community
Platō Coffee was founded by Stephan and Petrus Bredell, who transformed what started as a dream and side business into a national coffee brand.
Today, the company roasts its own coffee, operates its own bakery and supplies its own equipment, allowing it to maintain consistency across its growing network of cafés. Its philosophy centres on creating welcoming spaces where quality coffee and community go hand in hand.
Alongside its coffee menu, customers can also choose from teas, smoothies, breakfast options, toasted sandwiches, wraps, pastries, cakes and light meals throughout the day.
Continuing to Grow Across the Helderberg
The opening of the F45 branch reflects both Platō Coffee’s continued expansion and the steady growth of Somerset West’s café culture. Having multiple locations across the Helderberg also makes the brand more accessible, whether you’re grabbing a takeaway coffee on the way to work, meeting friends or stopping in during a shopping trip.
Seeing Platō Coffee open a second Somerset West location less than two years after arriving in the Helderberg suggests the brand has found a strong following locally. As the area continues to grow, it’s interesting to see established South African businesses investing further in the community rather than simply opening their first store and moving on.
